Glue Smugglers: Compliment or Contaminment?

Airport Security - Baggage Check - Smuggling - BSI Adhesives

China Glue Orders in Decline

For the past six years, BSI has partnered with a Chinese company who markets our adhesives in China.  They have put a lot of effort into exposing professional users to BSI products and their excellent features. Recently, they informed us of the reason sales in 2025 have seen a decline. They discovered that a hobby shop in North China has people that are visiting the US purchase BSI’s CAs in bulk from retail model shops. They then hide it in their luggage on their return trip to China, bypassing the freight charge and import duties that our official distributor must pay. We have begun steps to prevent this from happening in the future, but we can’t help but feel it is a compliment that BSI adhesives are considered superior enough to have them smuggled into China.

We've Declined Dealer Inquiries

Along that same line, for the past year we have been receiving more than a dozen inquiries a week from “companies” that want to sell our products online. We have rejected 98% of them. An important reason for the superiority of BSI’s CAs is their freshness by the time they get into the hands of consumers. BSI could have a short-term gain by establishing these new “dealers,” but the likely result would be some consumers receiving products that are old after the dealer takes too long to sell our products. Our reputation is too important to take that chance. Our established dealer network has done an excellent job for BSI. Many dealers get products to consumers in less than a week from the time the adhesives are bottled.

All new orders to our dealer in China will have this special logo below. This way the customer will know that our glue is being brought to them through legitimate channels and our quality standards can be maintained.

Wulfgar Weapons & Props Sends Glowing Review on BSI Adhesives

BSI Insta-Cure - BSI Epoxy - Super Glue - CA Glues - Insta-set - BSI Adhesives

Recently Wulfgar Weapons & Props posted the following on their Facebook page:
Whenever anyone asks us about adhesives the answer is always Bob Smith Industries [BSI]
We speak to so many people that have poor experiences with other brands of adhesives especially epoxies and super glue... we did too til we used BSI products!
You'll hear without fail the following statement in our film and cosplay how to workshops - "If you only write one thing or take one picture - BSI adhesives"
25 second no fus hold on most of their stuff including their quick setting 2 part epoxy. They are all so easy to use as well.
Our absolute must have is BSI Maxi-Cure super glue. We use it on everything including foam, rubber, plastic and metal. It is gap filling and doesn't run while applying it.
If you don't have BSI get some... You'll thank us (and them) later.

Does BSI Epoxy Dry Clear?

One of the greatest features of Quik-Cure epoxy is that it dries clear, which enhances work time and the beauty of your project. If you don't believe us then listen to E. Cayemberg from Manitowoc, WI . . .
"I kinda dig the way 5 minute Bob Smith epoxy [Quik-Cure] dries clear and seals up covered rocket surfaces masterfully. No tape, no PVC pipe pullers or fancy sticks; just approximately the right amount of epoxy, a steady finger and some alcohol (to wipe up your sticky finger and messy rocket)."    – E. Cayemberg

91 Year Old RC Modeler Wins BSI Adhesives

BSI donates product to many organizations all year long, but the best part of donating is the feedback from customers. It doesn't matter what age you are BSI adhesives fit your hobbies.

BSI,
I was one of the lucky winners at our Club's Christmas Raffle and I won your box of glue.  It is very much appreciated for I am 91 years of age and I would rather build from plans or scratch or repair than fly.  I am about ready to give up flying.  It's tough getting old. This winter I finished a Piper Club  62"  for a member and before that a PT-19  like I trained in during WW2.
Thanks again for the Glue
Art G.
Congratulations Art! Keep 'em flying!

Removing Old Masking Tape From Metal with Ease Using Insta-Clean™

Removing very old masking tape was my weekend challenge. While re-purposing this old metal flat file into an industrial coffee table, I was faced with getting rid of 20-30 year old masking tape that was all over the metal.

Tape removal - DIY Coffee Table Project - BSI Adhesives - Insta-Clean
Insta-Clean™ has a pleasant smell and doesn't evaporate
as soon as you apply it. It stays put to penetrate
the old tape or sticker and breaks down the adhesive.
I started out using Acetone which helped, but was still a tremendous amount of work. Plus the odors were horrible (even while working outside); the acetone solvent evaporated so fast that it wasn't working through the tape; I also knew it was bad for my hands and rubber gloves didn't help. My husband reminded me about this bottle of BSI Insta-Clean™ we had, so I tried it. The directions recommend leaving it on for 1-5 minutes, but I had to leave it sit longer (5 minutes per decade was more like it). I sprayed it on the tape –saturated it, then went to Home Depot. When I got back I was able to pull off big chunks at a time. Some places I had to pull the tape up a bit and then spray some more Insta-Clean underneath where the tape met the metal, wait a few seconds then pull some more. I still had to use my straight-edged blade, but this stuff REALLY works. Since it is attacking the glue and softening it things got pretty sticky, but the oil in the solvent kept it from just evaporating and it also helped to move my straight-egde blade along the top of the metal without gouging into the painted surface.

Insta-Clean - Sticker Remover - BSI Adhesives
Old masking tape is well saturated with Insta-Clean™ and left on for a bit to do the job.

After I got all the tape off, the final clean up with Acetone or Windex was a breeze.
Removing Masking Tape Residue - Insta-Clean Sticker Remover - BSI Adhesives
From this shot you can see how much tape I had to removed. This is just one side!

If you're a DIY weekend warrior you have to have this product in your bag of tricks! I have used it on the sticky residue left on mirrors from tape or stickers. I have also used in on glass, metal, Formica, and plastic. A friend also told me they use it on their painted white makeup vanity. When they get makeup on it and 409 or other cleaning products won't take it off, Insta-Clean seems to be the only thing that works, and it doesn't harm the surface!

Insta-Clean Sticker Remover - Masking Tape Reidue Gone - BSI Adhesives
I Love it! My finished Vintage Metal Flat file Coffee Table.
Insta-Clean™ Sticker Remover is a new product from BSI, the manufacturer of adhesives such as QUIK-CURE™ Epoxy and MAXI-CURE™ Super Glue. They certainly know their stuff. Insta-Clean is starting to be available in a wide variety of hardware stores and you can also buy it from them on-line at Amazon.

Fly RC Product Review - The Glue That Binds Us All

We were recently pleasantly surprised to see that Matt Maziarz at FlyRC wrote a fantastic two page review on BSI adhesives. Matt explains how BSI got its wings and, among other things, Matt states, "There are a number of different companies out there that produce such products, but few of them, if any, are as well adapted to the model aviator's needs as Bob Smith Industries, or BSI."

We couldn't have done a better job writing about our own products. Thanks Matt!! Please click on the image below to read the full review.

Why Do People Prefer BSI Adhesives?

We just love it when we find our customers talking about us. We recently watched some folks on RC Groups discuss Bob Smith (BSI) Adhesives versus that of our competitors. It was great to sit and silently watch as they promoted BSI adhesives without any prompting from us.

We've changed the names to protect the innocent. We also don't believe in putting down our competitors so we changed their names too. We think our customer's words are our best promotion. See for yourself:

THE OTHER Adhesive's
Question.
I purchased 2 bottles of the medium can last year and it just wouldn't set. Emailed with no response.
Well thinking maybe I just got some LHS old stock or a bad batch I thew them away.
Well the LHS was out of my reg brand Bob Smith so I settled for THE OTHER it is same. Slow no set too. I just can't trust it for a long term bond in a critical area.
Objectively. Maybe they have different properties and reactions and I'm just used to one. Although the GP and BS are Transparently interchangeable

Anyone use THE OTHER Adhesives CA?

#2 Forum Person 2 Jan 26, 2014 11:15 AM

I've found the same thing. I had been using THE OTHER for several years and was happy with it. A few months ago, I found that their (THE OTHER) Medium CA was very slow to set and the bond was weak when it eventually did. Also, I found the shelf life was very short - it thickened up in the bottle after just a month or so.

I've changed to Bob Smith CA and am very pleased with that.

Maybe THE OTHER just had a bad batch a while ago, or my LHS sold me old stock, but if I can't trust the stuff I won't be using it any more.

#3 Forum Person 1 Jan 26, 2014 07:05 PM

That's why I tried calling and emailing (no reply). To give them a heads up. (No refund or replacement needed). I'm 3 bottle down - as in trash now. Just surprised. Maybe more than isolated... But that was why I tried reaching out.

#4 Forum Person 3 Jan 29, 2014 01:23 PM

I tried THE OTHER when it first came out and had the same type of results as reported here. I switched back to Bob Smith. As I'm allergic to regular CA, I have to use the 'user friendly' stuff and it is too expensive to be buying crap that is no good. My personal opinion is that THE OTHER is just a lot of marketing hype and tried to corner the market with a truly inferior product.

#5 Forum Person 4 Jan 29, 2014 01:55 PM

THE OTHER was good when they first came out. I tried them and liked it.

Their biggest contribution was the style of top they introduced. Like it, especially for med CA.

But, I use Bob Smith stuff since it is handy for me to buy (at the LHS). I also use the odorless stuff and accelerator. Shelf life for all depends on exposure to humidity.

#6 Forum Person 5 Jan 29, 2014 04:47 PM

I too liked THE OTHER as it was said to be made in the USA, and liked the bottle top. I tried a few bottles. First few I picked up at Toledo when they first came out. Appeared to be just as good as Bob Smith or ANOTHER COMPETITOR, but I liked the cap system they had better...until the pin came loose from the cap and stuck in the nozzle with 1/2 still stuck in the bottle, and no hope of getting the pin out.
I then got another 2 bottles (1 thin, one med) a few years later. Both turned yellow a few days after opening. I keep my CA in a large plastic container with silica beads. My older Bob Smith stuff was still good. I don't even use the caps when I store the CA in the container with the silica beads, so the THE OTHER'S cap ended up being no advantage to me.
Sticking (pardon the pun) with Bob Smith and ANOTHER COMPETITOR.

#7 Forum Person 1 Jan 29, 2014 10:36 PM

Good idea on the storage. I buy small bottles as needed open them. ANOTHER COMPETITOR was always good too.. Just LHS doesn't carry it. The BSmith tips are fine. I just keep them clean (best I can).
But yeah, no reply whiched surprised me by my impression of their advertising. I'm all for an American company being prosperous. So not bashing ... But concerned enough to check before I buy any more. We are fortunate to have 2 really good hobby shops here. One that I bought from when I was a kid (I'm 50 now) and one that is newer to the area but the owner owner one in South fL for years before relocating here to be near their children. Both carry Bob Smith products and one carries THE OTHER also.

#8 Forum Person 6 Jan 30, 2014 06:40 AM

I "won" some of THE OTHER'S CA at a recent fun fly along with some other goodies. Well, I must have got the opposite from what you guys did, because when i went to use it the stuff was solid as a rock inside the bottle! I'll stick with my old stand by BSI CA, the stuff works great & I really like their bottle tips.
