I LOVE your Maxi-Cure! — Super Glue That Is SUPER

Maxi-Cure™ Adhesive from BSI

It is no surprise that our customers can't get enough BSI Maxi-Cure™ adhesive. It is so versatile and effective on so many materials that its uses seem limitless. In fact, I just used it last week to glue felt pads back onto the surface of the nail-on slider glide pads of my barstools. As I hammered them in a few of the felt pads came unglued. Maxi-Cure did the trick and was much stronger than what they were first glued on with. I keep it handy in my kitchen cabinet, where all useful tools should be!

Fly RC Product Review - The Glue That Binds Us All

We were recently pleasantly surprised to see that Matt Maziarz at FlyRC wrote a fantastic two page review on BSI adhesives. Matt explains how BSI got its wings and, among other things, Matt states, "There are a number of different companies out there that produce such products, but few of them, if any, are as well adapted to the model aviator's needs as Bob Smith Industries, or BSI."

Unmanned Air Vehicle Uses BSI Adhesives - RQ-21A Blackjack

The Insitu Inc.-built RQ-21A Blackjack is a larger twin-tailed follow-on to the ScanEagle unmanned air vehicle. The system contains five air vehicles, two ground control systems, and launch and recovery equipment. Marine Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 is conducting ground and shipboard testing on Blackjack. After completion, the government and Insitu team will transition the system to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron (VMU) 2, located at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. for operational use.

At eight feet long and with a wingspan of 16 feet, Blackjack provides intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and communications relay to the warfighter on land and at sea. The air vehicle’s open-architecture configuration can integrate new payloads quickly and can carry sensor payloads as heavy as 25 pounds. Standard payloads include day and night full-motion video cameras, an infrared marker, a laser range finder, a communications relay package and automatic identification system receivers. Of course, BSI adhesives are used in the manufacture of the Blackjack.

Using Insta-Set Accelerator with BSI CAs

Q: Why would I ever need to use your Insta-Set accelerator? Your CAs bond so quickly I don't think I would need them to be any faster.

A: Whenever you are bonding material with the thicker CAs, some of the CA will ooze out of the joint. Even though the parts may be firmly bonded within 5-10 seconds, the excess CA can remain liquid for several minutes. Spraying the joint with the Insta-Set will harden this CA in less than ten seconds so you can handle the parts without fear of bonding your fingers to them. Safe Use of Adhesives

Before using any adhesive, adequate ventilation of your work area needs to be addressed. A window or door should be open and/or a small fan placed to circulate the air over your workbench. When using CA, especially super-thin INSTA-CURE, always loosen the top and then retighten it before carefully cutting off the end of the nozzle. This relieves any pressure that may have built-up inside the bottle that could cause the CA to spurt out. This is definitely an issue when CA is used at higher altitudes. Never have the bottle pointing close to your face while opening it.
